Reinforced pistons for the use of ethanol; – 1.2 mm thick rings favoring reduction of friction and, consequently, reduction of fuel consumption;
Block with reinforced bearings and with piston cooling system (oil jet at the bottom of the pistons);
Reinforced bronze;
Heads with reinforced valve seats for the use of ethanol;
Reinforced inlet valves;
Canister electrovalve adapted for use with ethanol;
Special whip for the bi-fuel motor, adapted to the cold start system.

The new engine produces 90 hp of maximum power at 5,750 rpm using ethanol (127 Nm of torque at 2,750 rpm). In the gasoline are 84 hp of maximum power and 120 Nm of torque, in the same rotations. Always associated with a five-speed manual transmission, the propeller equips the initial versions of the vehicle.The intermediate configuration uses the EC5 engine, which already equipped the 208. It is the 1.6l 16V aspirated, equipped with the Flexstart technology, which does not require the use of the additional tank for cold starting. This propeller is attached to the 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed sequential automatic transmission. It generates 122 hp of maximum power at 5,800 rpm using ethanol (161 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm). In gasoline, its numbers are 115 hp maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 152 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.
This engine had a great evolution in the lubrication system, with the use of a more efficient oil, that allowed to improve the performance and to reduce the consumption of fuel.To assist the driver in reducing fuel consumption, this engine has the GSI, which indicates in the instrument panel the most suitable gear to ensure a lower fuel consumption. Another important function of the set is the EcoDrive program. Attached to the automatic gearbox, when activated the driver may notice a smoother operation to reduce fuel consumption. Fuel economy can reach up to 7% in urban use. In the instrument panel, the function is identified by the ‘ECO’ pictogram.For the top-of-the-line version, PEUGEOT has reserved the new generation of THP 1.6l Flex turbo engine, which produces power from 173 hp to 6,000 rpm (in ethanol) and 166 hp when fueled with gasoline, reproducing the same torque in the same range (240 Nm at 1,400 rpm).
